Large Filament Eruption and CME - Huge Sungrazing Comet Plunges Into the Sun


A coronal mass ejection (CME) rocketed away from the sun during the early hours of Oct. 24th. The source of the blast was a filament of magnetism near the Sun's northeastern limb, which became unstable and exploded. The CME was not Earth directed but it might deliver a glancing blow to Earth's magnetic field on October 28-29.

Huge Sungrazing Comet Plunges Into the Sun

The SOHO solar spacecraft captured a bright sungrazer comet plunging toward the Sun on October 22-23, 2020. The comet was probably a 'Kreutz sungrazer', fragments of a large comet that broke up centuries ago.
